Lil About Us

Brothers David Lawson and Steven Dyar founded the Lil Butcher Shoppe in 1991. Before entering the butcher trade, David worked at his family’s gas station, named “Tip’s,” after his and Steve’s mother: Christal “Tip” Lawson. The family managed the various locations from the years 1974-1990. David had worked in the family’s gas station business his entire life, where he learned business management and customer service skills. After serving in the United States Navy, Steven Dyar began working at Carroll’s Meat Shoppe, Patricia (Trish) Dyar’s family butcher shop in Jacksonville, Florida. This is where Steve learned the butcher trade and fell in love with Trish, whom he married. In 1990, the couple decided to move back to Mississippi.

With David’s business skills and Steve’s butchering skills, the brothers decided to open their own butcher shop in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Their strengths taught each other what they knew about business and the butcher trade. Soon, many family members joined the Lil Butcher Shoppe team & the family business began to thrive. With the 2nd Generation following in their footsteps, we are working to grow the business even further – one happy customer at a time.
